'86 4x4 rear shoe adjustment

Hi, on the drivers side rear brake drum, if I am sitting on the outside of the brake drum facing in, which way do I move the ...handle ..of the brake adjuster tool..towards the top..as in ..up, or towards the bottom..as in..down, to loosen the brake shoes, so I can get the drum off?
