Upper and Lower Ball Joints for 98 Tacoma 2.4

Do I have to compress the springs when changing upper ball joints and lower ball joints ? If I don't have to compress them which order should I do them in first? I need to replace both upper and lower on both sides. Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is my inlaws truck so I have to impress them....please have pitty on me ! Thanks again

Not to be mean. But if you have to ask that, you shouldn't do it.

You may want to pick up a Haynes manual, or do some photocopying at your local library.

Riceye,

Thanks, but the Haynes in the past was a waste of money. Have they gotten better @ going into the details. Because I am not a mechanic, but good @taking apart and fixing.

Here it goes.

Rent a ball joint removal press (look like a C clamp) and that tuning fork apparatus. Jack you truck up and put it on jack stands near the first body mount bracket past the front tires. Remove the tires and coil spring assembly. Tie it all up with some rope so the CV does come out inside the boot. Beat the upper off the control arm and press out. Press new one in and install into UCA. Beat the lower off and unbolt. Install new one. TORQUE ALL OF THEM TO SPECS. Install coil spring assembly and untie. Install wheel and torque. Do other side the same.

Get alignment and roll with it. Higher priced ball joints have a grease alimite, but the upper balljoints can't be sourced anywhere near me that had an grease alimite.
